Markus Paulsons Johansson is a Swedish trombonist with a strong focus on chamber music, orchestral performance, and the development of the brass repertoire.

He is currently pursuing his Master’s degree at the Academy of Music and Drama at the University of Gothenburg. He previously studied there (2021–2023) before continuing his Bachelor’s studies at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule für Musik in Berlin (2023–2025).

Markus has studied with renowned teachers including Louise Pollock, Arno Tri Pramudia, Olaf Ott, Jürgen Oswald, Ingemar Roos, and Martin Schippers, and has taken part in masterclasses with leading trombonists such as Jay Friedman, Ian Bousfield, and Abbie Conant.

He has received several scholarships and awards, including the Västsvenska Blåsmusikstipendiet and First Prize in the Lilla Ljunggrenska competition.

As a freelance trombonist, Markus performs regularly with orchestras across Sweden. He is also a core member of BrassUnit, where he is active in both performance and the ensemble’s social media and marketing.

Markus is particularly dedicated to ensemble playing and to expanding the role of brass chamber music as a vital and expressive art form.
